As of June 1, there are two important changes to application procedures through the Canadian Consulate in Seattle.

The first change is that in-person service will no longer be offered. All applications for a temporary resident visa (TRV) or initial study permit will need to be mailed.

The second change is that documents will no longer be returned by courier. The Consulate will return all documents including passports by first class U.S. Postal Service First Class Mail with no tracking number. Therefore, pre-paid FedEx envelopes will no longer be accepted.

For further details on these changes, please visit: http://www.canadainternational.gc.ca/seattle/visas/apply-how_a_demande-comment.aspx?lang=eng&view=d

These changes will impact all students who plan to apply for a TRV and all visitors who plan on applying for an initial study permit through the Canadian Consulate in Seattle. If you have concerns about the safety of your passport and other documents being returned, you may choose to submit an application to the Canadian Consulates in Buffalo or Detroit as both have mailboxes in Canada and accept pre-paid return Canada Post Xpresspost envelopes. We highly recommend that you check the website of the visa office to which you plan on applying.
