About the Global Lounge
Located in the Marine Drive Residences, the UBC Global Lounge is a place for everyone with international interests. Want to catch the news from your home country or watch the World Cup? Drop by! Many international clubs have their home base at the Lounge, and use it for their international-themed movie nights, discussions, and parties.
Our regular hours are Monday to Friday, 12pm to 8pm.

Our Vision
Various students collaborated to create a vision that will act as a guide for all those who contribute to the Simon K.Y. Lee Global Lounge & Resource Centre.
Civis Mundus Sum, or I am a citizen of the world, modifies the traditional Civis Romanus Sum, which in Latin means, “I am a Roman citizen”. Adopting this motto for the the Simon K.Y. Lee Global Lounge & Resource Centre recognizes our duty to give the term ‘global citizenship’ substance and meaning, which arises from the privilege afforded to us by an institution that actively invests in student engagement.
Through fostering critical discussion and creating opportunities for us to educate ourselves and others about the affairs of the world, the Global Lounge has become a vibrant and comfortable place for dialogue and action. When you enter the Global Lounge, you step into more than a physical space; you join a community of people with whom you activate and define your role as a citizen of the world.
Civis mundus sum is consistent with the UBC motto, tuum est (“It is yours”), and UBC’s vision, articulated in the university’s new Strategic Plan: Place and Promise. That vision is to “creat[e] an exceptional learning environment towards Global Citizenship and a civil and sustainable society”. As UBC students, we are dedicated to bearing this torch of global citizenship responsibly and ensuring that this commitment has a place at UBC. Within this place, from UBC to the world around us, there is a promise; it is one to be discovered, challenged, and embraced by all those who seek to say, civis mundus sum.
