If you have international or Aboriginal students heading to UBC’s Vancouver campus this year, they should be planning to start their UBC careers with Jump Start.
Unique to UBC, Jump Start is a first-year transition program designed to address the complex needs of new international and Aboriginal students and prepare them for UBC’s learning environment and the specific expectations of their faculties.
Last week, we received grade information from the Ministry of Education for completed grade 11 and grade 12 non-linear courses.
You may be getting inquiries from students whose grade information sent to us by the Ministry isn’t accurate. A common example of this is when a student has repeated a course and completed it before February 2012, but we are receiving the grade for their first attempt.
As you likely know, our Vancouver and Okanagan Senates recently approved a proposal that leads to some changes in our admission process for BC high school students for 2012.
We are currently communicating these changes directly to students via direct email, updates on our Vancouver and Okanagan websites, posts on our Admissions blog, and information in their Student Service Centre accounts.
In a recent post, I mentioned that we are considering options for the 2012 admission process for BC high school students that focus on a fair process that leads to timely decisions based on verifiable academic information. In this post I’d like to provide some detail about our proposed plan.

This is a year of significant change here in the UBC Admissions office. First, we’ve established an earlier application deadline. Second, we’re greatly expanding Broad Based Admission for programs at the Vancouver campus. Now, we face a third possible change surrounding the current uncertainty with respect to the availability of spring grades for BC high school students.
